Brett's Professional Biography

My name is Brett Weis and I am owner of Brett Construction, Inc.  I began my construction career full time in 1980 and am now within my 30th year in this field. I grew up the son of a contractor and during summer months learned how to frame walls, do plumbing rough in, electrical rough in, heating systems, etc... I took carpentry at Vocational School (High School) and soon after went to work with a construction company in Charleston, West Virginia.  This company specialized in gas station construction - new and renovation on tanks from metal to PVC. At age 23, I went to work for a commercial contractor in Newport News, Virginia.  I started as a heavy equipment operator, and within a year became site superintendant. This company formed a branch for site work only and 25 years later is one of the largest site contractors in the state of Virginia. I was heavily involved in starting this new venture back in the mid 1980's.

In 1987, I went to work for a commercial contractor in Portsmouth, Virginia. During this time, I was a project superintendant building commercial buildings such as schools, restaurants etc... during my eight year tenure there. I completed over 50 million dollars in total contracts. In early 1995, this company wanted me to build a Middle/High school in North Carolina.  Not wanting to leave my family I declined the offer. An opportunity came for a job with Gloucester County Virginia Schools as a project manager.  I was awarded the job with the School Board, based on my experience building schools. In 1995-96, I was the School Board's representative for construction of Bethel Elementary School.   After this project was complete, I went to work for my father's custom home business, and ran all of the projects in the field from 1996 to 2004. My father decided to retire from the building business and became a supplier of barrier free residential and commercial products to help those with disabilities have accessible homes and workplaces.

I began Brett Construction, Inc. in 2004. Through 2008, we have built nine log homes with eight of them having full basements. We have also built many conventional custom homes along with renovation and addition projects.

Some of our strong points:

  • COMMUNICATION: As a contractor and business manager - communication skills must be excellent. I have field project managers who speak directly to each customer on a daily basis, and I e-mail my customers with progress reports, upcoming schedules, etc.. This cuts down on errors for color or material selections, because the customer and builder have a written record of each selection.
  • JOB SITE CLEANLINESS
  • SUB CONTRACTORS: Top quality sub contractors are a MUST.  Each person that works on one of my projects must be respectful to the customer at all times. The people who work with me to build the customers' dream have the same level of pride in their workmanship as I do. We share that common goal, "Give the customer the best quality job on time."
  • MEMBER OF BBB: (Better Business Bureau) - Our reputation is our livelihood - much of our work comes from our prior customer references.
  • HONESTY: Being 100% honest with all customers is something I demand from all who work with me. I am a Christian and I display those values in my work.
